Technical / Process Information
All the Chapel wood floor ranges are distressed by tumbling. This is a method using a large tank filled with pieces of metal, the tank is rotated and the planks tumble and are distressed randomly by the pieces of metal in the tank. Colours are produced by exposing the wood to various chemicals or blends of chemicals in order to manipulate the tannic acid which occurs naturally in oak. The application of hard wax/oil brings the colour out of the wood and by applying this to a warm board an increase is achieved in the quantity of h/w oil put into the board.
The induction of the colour by “manipulation” with chemicals and the impregnation of the boards with the h/w oil means that the surface colours are fully and easily repairable and the floors are virtually maintenance free. Only natural and coloured h/w oils are used in production of Chapel floors. Stains are never used. The addition of silicic acid gives a high abrasion resistance which is also resistant to wine beer cola coffee tea fruit juice milk and water ( after a curing period). We consider our floors to be HOOLIGAN PROOF.

Floors can be installed by nailing to battens fully gluing, with water free adhesive, to the sub floor or by floating on Elastilon. Liquid batten methods are not recommended unless used with an acoustic mat.
A range of matching skirtings and expansion covers is available.
